Birth & Postpartum Doula Serving Southern Utah

What is a Doula?

A doula is‍ ‍

- someone who provides support, information, and resources to families throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the early postpartum period. - a continuous one-on-one support throughout labor and birth offering techniques to help relax the laboring mother and positions to help move labor along. A doula can assist in both medicated and unmedicated hospital births, birth center births, and home births. - a comforting presence to help partners/support people feel confident in caring for the mother through all stages of pregnancy and birth. - an advocate for parents’ birth preferences in the midst of labor and birth when it can be overwhelming for mother and partner to make decisions.

A doula is not‍ ‍

- a replacement for the support person/partner. A doula is there to guide the partner and work together in caring and supporting for the mother. - a medical provider. Doulas do not deliver babies or provide medical advice.

My Goal

I want to help families realize that they have more control over their pregnancy and birth than they think. I want to help families achieve stronger connections to each other and to their new baby. A lot of women have no idea what they are capable of and how to trust and act on their instincts. It is my goal to help them understand the power God has given them and to feel confident in exercising it.

“Just as a woman’s heart knows how to pump, her lungs know how to inhale, and her hands to pull back from fire, so she knows when and how to give birth.”

- Virginia DiOrio
